Obaseki set to pick PDP card, as party accepts Shaibu as deputy
There are indications that the Edo PDP insistence that Mr Godwin Obaseki can only get their ticket while they produce the deputy, has given way.
The decision to fly the PDP flag followed discussions the Governor had with it’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus and some PDP governors who have been in Benin City over the matter.
Edo is the only APC state in the oil rich South-South region of Nigeria. For the PDP, a victory for it in Edo, will make the zone an all PDP affair.
However, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, the state party chairman who said the doors of the party are open to Governor Obaseki to join, added that Obaseki is yet to personally reach out to him or any member of his executive council, less than a week to the party primaries.
Aziegbemi’s statement tallies with that of the South-South zonal chairman of the party, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi who last month echoed the same sentiment about the governor, but insisted that he follows due process to join the PDP.
