Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, declares his intent to run for governorship and vows to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket. In an interview on Channels TV, Shaibu expresses confidence in obtaining the candidacy, emphasizing his 30 years in politics and seven years working with Governor Godwin Obaseki. He also acknowledges his cordial relationship with Adams Oshiomhole, pledging to apologize for any past disagreements while maintaining his commitment to supporting Obaseki.
Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has officially declared his intention to run for the governorship in the forthcoming election, expressing determination to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket. In an interview on Channels TV Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Shaibu confidently asserted that nobody could stop him from obtaining the party’s candidacy.
Having been in politics for 30 years and having worked closely with Governor Godwin Obaseki for the past seven years, Shaibu believes he is in the best position to succeed his principal. He assured that his name would be on the ballot, stating, “My name will be sent to INEC, and I will be the candidate for the party in the election because I don’t do things without checking. I have gone round and consulted, and I have been assured.”
Addressing his relationship with Adams Oshiomhole, Shaibu referred to Oshiomhole as his father and expressed his willingness to apologize for any past disagreements. He noted, “I am happy that the governor (Obaseki) has started inviting the former governor (Oshiomhole) and my father to political functions. That is what I have been praying for.”
Shaibu acknowledged the need to apologize to Oshiomhole for certain statements made during the election, emphasizing that while they may differ politically, he remains committed to supporting Obaseki. The deputy governor also mentioned his previous hesitancy to reach out to Oshiomhole, waiting for the governor to make the first move. With the recent gestures of reconciliation, Shaibu expressed his intention to visit and apologize to Oshiomhole.
During his formal declaration on Monday, Shaibu stated, “Nobody can stop my ambition,” and promised to deliver practical governance if elected governor in 2024. He emphasized the trust placed in him by the people of Edo and his commitment to serving them effectively.
