Recently, thousands of friends, family members, and political associates gathered at Ize-Iyamu’s residence in Benin City to witness his acceptance to run for the Edo 2024 governorship election under the APC. This event highlighted the growing call for his candidacy, with various groups and individuals expressing their support and assurance that he is well-suited for the race.

Prominent members of the APC from the 192 wards and 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo State attended the meeting, representing diverse ethnic groups, including the Edo State Arewa/Muslim group, Christianity Groups in Edo State, Yoruba community, Igbo community, Ijaw, and others.

In a statement titled “On Edo 2024,” Ize-Iyamu confirmed the meeting, stating that it provided an opportunity to share thoughts on the state of Edo and collectively agree on steps needed for sustainable development. The discussion eventually led to the question of his candidacy, and after careful consideration, Ize-Iyamu accepted the request to enter the race for the Edo State 2024 governorship election.

Acknowledging the implicit confidence reposed in him by friends, associates, admirers, and followers, Ize-Iyamu expressed his passion for reversing the state’s dwindling fortunes. Born, raised, schooled, and working in Edo, he emphasized his commitment to holistic development, calling on every well-meaning citizen to join hands in setting the state on a path to prosperity.

Prominent figures in Edo State, including Dr. Gbenga Daodu, endorsed Ize-Iyamu’s aspiration, emphasizing his qualifications, preparedness, and commission to govern the state. Daodu highlighted Ize-Iyamu’s attributes, such as good listening skills, relational leadership, and visionary thinking, positioning him as an eminently qualified candidate.

Ize-Iyamu, a seasoned politician and two-time gubernatorial candidate in Edo State, faced a narrow defeat in the 2019 election. Despite challenges, his supporters believe he was a victim of skewed political propaganda and emotional manipulation.
