Nigeria Police Hunt Suspects Behind Ekiti Bank Robbery
Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Ognndare Dare, has strongly condemned the brazen daylight bank robbery that occurred in Ikere-Ekiti on Wednesday. Expressing his displeasure over the incident, Dare issued a press release late Wednesday through the command’s official account, vowing to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure the swift arrest of those involved.
Earlier reports indicated that two new-generation banks in Ikere-Ekiti were targets of armed robbery attacks, resulting in three feared deaths. The assailants reportedly used dynamite to blow open the banks’ doors and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
In response to the incident, Commissioner Dare assured the public that a full-scale investigation was underway. He urged citizens to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, emphasizing the commitment of the command to ensure the criminals face the full consequences of the law.
The police statement read, “While commiserating with the family members of those who were fatally affected and wishing those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery, the commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
According to the statement, the command’s tactical squads and the military, deployed immediately upon receiving information, engaged the robbers. The criminals abandoned their vehicles and motorcycles used for the operation and escaped into the bush. Law enforcement authorities recovered the vehicles and motorcycles.
