Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information has warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) risks losing Edo State to the opposition if it fails to put its house in order.

He said the warring factions headed by the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki and their supporters must embrace peace and work for the party if it is serious about winning the governorship election.

The Edo state chapter of the APC and the national leadership of the party are currently locked in a battle on the mode of primary to be used in choosing the flagbearer of the party.

While Edo APC led by Anselm Ojezua said it is adopting the indirect primary method for the emergence of the party’s flagbearer in the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state, the National Working Committee (NWC) said it has adopted the direct primary option.

” As an elder of the APC from Edo state, I will not take sides in this matter. But we must abide with what the constitution of the party says. I have said it before that if this matter Is not handled properly, the party may lose”.

” I have not read the party’s constitution to know what it said on primary. But I must say that the constitution is supreme and the earlier we look in the direction of resolving the differences, the better for the party both at the primary and the election itself”.

” If the differences subsists, then the party may lose. I don’t know which is greater between the NWC and the state. In the hierarchy, we have the National Convention, NEC and the NWC. It is in that order. But if the constitution stipulates the procedure, that is the procedure that will be adopted because it is supreme”

” Contending forces cannot work in the interest of the party. The earlier they are resolved, the better. The Bisi Akande Reconciliation Committee is supposed to have intervened in resolving the problems in Edo and Ondo. I hope that this COVID-19 has not slowed down the activities of that committee” he said.
