Lagos Government Bans Street Closures for Parties; Offenders to Be Prosecuted

The Lagos State Government has announced a ban on the closure of streets for parties and social events, warning that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted. The Lagos State Taskforce condemned the practice of residents closing inner roads and streets to host social events, causing inconvenience to other road users.

CSP Shola Jejeloye, the Chairman of the agency, described the act as selfish and inconsiderate, emphasizing that such actions cause discomfort to law-abiding individuals in the state. He cited instances where birthday celebrations occupied a significant portion of roads, slowing down vehicular movement.

Jejeloye disclosed that areas like Lagos Island, Oworonshoki, and Agege are major hotspots for such illegal activities. The Lagos State Task Force plans to implement an action plan to curb these inconveniences.

He stated, “Henceforth, anyone caught carrying out such a foolish act will be arrested and charged to the mobile court for prosecution.” Jejeloye urged Lagosians to use private or government-owned facilities for social events and emphasized the need for obtaining permission if an event is to take place in a nearby street or road.

Residents are encouraged to report any closure of inner streets for social gatherings to the nearest police station or the Lagos State Task Force for necessary action. Jejeloye emphasized the collective effort required to maintain sanity across the Lagos Metropolis.
