Wuhan, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, reported on Monday, its first cluster of infections since the lifting of lockdown on the central Chinese city.

According to Wuhan health authorities, five cases were discovered on Sunday in a single residential community, the first confirmed in the city since April 3.

The Wuhan cluster cases were among 17 new infections reported in China on Monday. Seven of the other cases were “imported” on a flight to Beijing that stopped in Inner Mongolia’s Hohhot for screening, Chinese state media reported. The remaining five were local transmissions discovered in north-east China.

At present, the task of epidemic prevention and control in the city is still very heavy,” said the Wuhan health authority in a statement. “We must resolutely contain the risk of a rebound.”

All of the latest confirmed cases were previously classified as asymptomatic, people who test positive but do not show symptoms of the virus but are capable of infecting others.

This comes after the Chinese government announced on Friday that they will gradually reopen cinemas, museums, and other recreational venues, though restrictions including mandatory reservations and a limit on numbers will be in place.
